Advanced Typography Projects – Corporate Report

IN-CLASS PROJECT 2 – Corporate Report:

Type serves two primary functions — communication and expression. Designing expressive display type is one of the more enjoyable tasks a designer faces. However, clients often need designers to organize and format large amounts of type into workable, aesthetically pleasing documents. The designer needs to take raw information and establish hierarchies, devise page grids, create style sheets and otherwise turn a daunting mass of text into an approachable, useful communication. Corporate reports are communications with shareholders, employees, customers or other interested parties on the mission and health of an organization.

You will use the text provided to create a corporate report with the following specs:

  • Design a type-dominant cover
  • Page size: 8.5”x11,” printed 2-up on 11’x17” paper
  • 8-page printed booklet
  • Interactive PDF with hyper-linked table of contents
  • Design master page templates with grid, baseline grid and numbered folio
  • Create several paragraph style sheets, including: body copy, headline, drophead, subhead, dropcap, caption, pulled quote, tabs, small type and whatever else you need. At least two of your styles need to be nested with character styles.
  • Include at least one table.
  • Images and other graphic elements can be included but must be subordinate.
